Foodie Dates for Your Diary – December

As the days are getting shorter and the nights are drawing in, an inclination to get home and get cosy is bubbling up in all of us. However, before you succumb to wine and box sets, have a look at some of the fabulous foodie events taking place throughout December to get you feeling festive.

Sheffield Christmas Market

16 November – 24 December, Sheffield

Fargate will host log cabins selling a variety of themed goods and many Sheffield independent traders will showcase all that is great with the Sheffield retail scene. Santa’s Grotto is at the heart of the event with the much loved Sleigh Bar and the traditional German Sausage grill.

York St. Nicholas Festival

17 November – 23 December, York

The historic city of York is set to host a series of festive events in the coming weeks. The daily Newgate market will be transformed for Christmas; the Guildhall will be home to the annual Made in Yorkshire Festive Fayre, and the Barley Hall will be putting on a Festive Market.

This year, York’s Chocolate Story has gone back in time to discover the part chocolate played in the trenches during the Christmases of WWI. There will be chocolate tours, exhibitions and plenty of opportunities to pick up chocolatey Christmas presents.

For those who don’t have a sweet tooth, Castle Howard, the ancestral home of Henry VIII’s fifth wife, Catherine Howard, has several events taking place throughout December. Candlelight carols, festive markets and twilight openings to name a few.

Manchester European Christmas Market

10 November – 21 December, Manchester

Taking over Manchester city centre over a five-week period, this award winning Christmas market is one of the largest in the UK.

Attracting shoppers from all over the UK, the Christmas Market has become not just a great place to pick up Christmas presents, trees and festive curios but a huge gastronomic event, offering a vast array of mouth-watering international food.

Lincolnshire Food and Gift Fair

Lincoln Christmas Markets

1-4 December, Lincoln

The cathedral city of Lincoln is steeped in over 2,000 years of history and provides an exquisite setting for a festive market where a host of independent stalls will be offering a wonderful range of food, drink and gifts.

A walk around the cobbled streets of the cultural quarter of the city will transport you back in time to the origins of the magnificent medieval square that provides a backdrop for this year’s market.

BBC Good Food Festive Fayre

9-11 December, Hampton Court Palace

Featuring small artisan producers, food and drinks, the BBC Good Food Festive Fayre will be at Hampton Court Palace on Friday 9 December – Sunday 11 December 2016. Tickets to the BBC Good Food Festive Fayre include entry to Hampton Court Palace, live cookery demonstrations in the beautiful Tudor Kitchen, festive entertainment and Christmas carols from local choirs.

Peddler Market Sheffield

Peddler Night Market

2-3 December, Sheffield

Peddler is a street food, craft beer, live music and art market which takes place on the first Friday and Saturday of every month. This foodie event showcases a fabulous line-up of some of Britain’s tastiest street food as well as original art and craft by local artists and makers. Photo Credit to Sheffield’s Nether Edge Pizza Company whose delightful pizza’s are eaten by many at the monthly markets and Peddler Market.

Street Food Putter Club

10 December, The Biscuit Factory Edinburgh

Events company Street Food Putter Club is teeing-off at The Glue Factory in Glasgow on Saturday 26th November and The Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh on Saturday 10th December 2016.

Set against the backdrops of the hip New York underground vibe warehouses, the unique pop-up events will combine street food favourites, Burger Meats Bun and Bó Kantina, with drinks, live music and a selection of pop-up games, including a bespoke 9-hole mini-golf course, ping pong, French boules and darts.

Guests can expect burgers, but better, with Burger Meats Bun’s renowned creations The Big Cheese and MacNuggets on the menu, together with spiced-chicken tacos, pork baos and Indonesian-style braised beef from Korean and Mexican fusion-inspired Bó Kantina.

Also on offer will be Harviestoun Brewery’s award-winning craft beers, Thistly Cross’ thirst-quenching ciders and a cool collection of cocktails, while DJs will create the party atmosphere at sessions from 1pm to 6pm and 7pm to 12pm.

Ticket includes a welcome drink, unlimited games and must be bought in advance.
